Process

To prepare, I cut, wedge(to mix & remove air) & weigh clay ready to throw my pottery on an electric wheel.
The pots are put aside to dry to leather hard state  necessary for trimming and turning footrings or adding handles.
I  stamp them  with 'W' and leave to completely dry ready for biscuit firing, this will be to around 950 degrees in my self built propane gas fired kiln.
The kiln is heated slowly overnight to drive out the last of the moisture reducing the chances of  any accidents, then firing proper begins early next morning and will take around 10 hours.
When the kiln is cool enough I unload & and arrange the pots ready for glazing.
I measure & mix glazes to exact recipes Ash, Celadon & Tenmoku. These are either poured over or the pots are dipped according to need. I pack them carefully into the kiln, this can take  around 8 hours or more and requires attention as pots cannot touch or be stacked as in biscuit firing.
This time the kiln is taken in stages to 1280 degrees and can take anything from 10-11hrs depending on circumstances.
I unload the kiln the following day when it's cool enough for me to handle the pots, they are then checked & put on the stock shelves.
